The record of Cohen’s career is therefore not one of absence.
The work circulated through galleries, exhibitions, publications, collections, teaching, and criticism while remaining outside abstract painting's mainstream account. Across six decades, it changes materials, procedures, and circumstances without resolving into a single style. The chronology follows these changes without imposing a developmental line, allowing Cohen's continuous position to emerge through the work's forms.
Public collections include the Swedish State Art Council, Stockholm; the Ulla and Heiner Pietzsch Collection, Berlin; the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro; Yale University; the Bryn Mawr College collections; and the Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase. Writing on Cohen appears in the New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, ARTnews, The Brooklyn Rail, Flash Art, The New Yorker, and New York Magazine. She taught and lectured at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia University School of the Arts, the Maryland Institute College of Art, the New York Studio School, and Bennington College.
